Chad sonelgaz launches 40 mw tri-fuel power plant project in N’Djamena
Chad’s Energy Future Shines Brighter with Sonelgaz’s 40 MW Tri-Fuel Power Plant
Chad is taking a bold step toward energy security with the advancement of a landmark 40 MW power plant in N’Djamena, driven by a strategic collaboration with Algeria’s Sonelgaz. A high-level delegation led by Sonelgaz International CEO Yazid Djellouli visited the Chadian capital to finalize technical specifications and operational roadmaps alongside Tchad-Elec’s engineering teams.
The tri-fuel technology at the heart of this project is a game-changer. Unlike conventional power stations, this 40 MW facility can seamlessly switch between natural gas, liquid fuels, and alternative energy sources. For N’Djamena—where power outages and surging demand create persistent challenges—this versatility ensures uninterrupted electricity supply, adapting production to the availability of local or imported resources.
The partnership extends beyond infrastructure. Sonelgaz, renowned for its expertise in managing large-scale energy networks across North Africa, will provide hands-on training and technical support to Chad’s Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNE). The goal? To build local capacity in maintenance, operations, and optimization, fostering long-term energy independence for Chad. This South-South cooperation model is a strategic investment in sustainability and self-reliance.
The ripple effects of this project are far-reaching. By diversifying its energy mix and embracing flexible technologies, Chad is not just addressing immediate power shortages—it’s laying the groundwork for a more resilient and economically vibrant future. Reliable energy access remains the cornerstone of industrial development and economic growth, making this initiative a beacon of progress for the nation.
