Papal recognition highlights Mgr Andrew Nkea Fuanya’s leadership

Cameroon’s Mgr Andrew Nkea Fuanya has been appointed by Pope Leon XIV to serve on the Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelization. This appointment underscores his extensive contributions to the Church’s missionary work and his leadership in fostering new Christian communities worldwide.

The promotion has been warmly welcomed by Cameroonian civil society leader Akere Muna, who praised Mgr Nkea Fuanya’s pastoral wisdom, unwavering service, and dedication to the Church. In a public statement, Muna described the appointment as a powerful testament to the light Mgr Nkea Fuanya continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.

«I am confident that in this new role, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and paternal compassion that have defined his ministry over the years», Muna stated. Mgr Andrew Nkea Fuanya, who has served as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda since 2019, was elected President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on April 30, 2022, playing a key role in peacebuilding efforts in crisis-affected regions.
