Boko Haram resurgence in Lake Tchad province sparks renewed military response
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno made a bold declaration on Facebook earlier this month, vowing to intensify efforts against an entrenched threat. “Our resolve is unshaken; we will persist in this fight until the menace is completely eliminated,” he stated on May 5th, just one day after Boko Haram’s armed faction launched a devastating assault on the military base at Barka Tolorom, situated along the Chadian shoreline of Lake Tchad. The attack claimed the lives of 24 soldiers, marking one of the deadliest recent encounters in the region.
