Bodo/Glimt coach targets match control against Union in Champions League clash

As the Union Saint-Gilloise prepares to face Bodo/Glimt in the third qualifying round of the Champions League on Tuesday at 20:00, the Norwegian side’s head coach, Kjetil Knutsen, has made his ambitions clear. Speaking in the nearly empty press room of the KVDO Arena in Ostend, he emphasized his team’s determination to dictate the pace of the match.

“We’re up against a very strong opponent, one that plays with physicality and directness,” Knutsen stated. “We’ve studied their strengths and weaknesses, but we also have our own identity to uphold. Our strategy is built on control, and we’ll maintain our offensive approach whether we’re at home or away. There’s no intention of spending 95 minutes just defending.”

“A few players from that game remain, but the team has transformed. Their system is still intact: they integrate new talent seamlessly, help them grow, and then sell them at a profit—just like we do. They’re not the biggest club in the world, but they’ve evolved. In Belgium, they’re now one of the top two teams, alongside Club Bruges, and they’re doing an outstanding job.”
