Bénin cabinet meetings: new monthly schedule for stronger governance

The Beninese government has set a new pace for its executive operations, marking the start of a seven-year mandate under President Romuald Wadagni with a firm commitment to transparency and efficiency.

Government priorities for 2026–2033

During its inaugural session on May 28, 2026, the Council of Ministers outlined a clear roadmap focused on eradicating extreme poverty, narrowing social and regional disparities, and safeguarding national security. The President emphasized the need for public officials to uphold integrity, accountability, and service to the nation, aligning public action with principles of frugality and solidarity to rebuild public trust.

Stronger institutional coordination ahead

The newly adopted governance framework introduces a structured meeting calendar to streamline decision-making. From now on, the full Council of Ministers will convene every first Wednesday of the month, ensuring regular oversight and alignment across ministries. In parallel, the Interministerial Committee will meet twice monthly—on the first and third Mondays—while individual cabinet meetings will be scheduled as needed by each ministry.

A new chapter for Beninese governance

This revised structure signals a shift toward greater institutional discipline and performance, with the government positioning itself to deliver on its ambitious seven-year agenda. By prioritizing balanced development and equitable resource allocation, the administration aims to foster long-term stability and responsiveness to citizen needs.
