Babacar Bâ Accuses Ousmane Sonko of Hypocrisy on “Caisses Noires”, Criticizes His Own Political Fund
The president of the Forum for Justiciability, Babacar Bâ, has once again stepped forward to denounce what he considers a glaring contradiction in the discourse of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko regarding transparency of political funds. In a public statement, the human rights defender reminds us that one who today presents himself as the champion of integrity and good governance had personally benefited during his tenure as Premier Minister from a political fund exceeding 1.7 billion CFA francs, an amount Sonko himself publicly acknowledged.
For Babacar Bâ, the irony is difficult to sustain, as the current leader of Pastef has multiplied in the past the denunciations against what he called the “caisses noires” of the state, only to find himself once again in charge of these same mechanisms he criticized.
The coordinator of the Forum for Justiciability has made this question of political funds a recurring battle cry over the past few months, repeatedly calling on the President, Prime Minister, and National Assembly to communicate on the amounts received and accept control by the Court of Audits.
“The governance in Senegal is a true institutional masquerade,” he describes it. He appeals to the Sénégalais people to wake up, unite and take back their destiny, using language that stands out from his usual technical tone on public funds management.
