Algerian PM meets Niger’s president to boost bilateral ties
The Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, met with Niger’s Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in Niamey on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Ghrieb conveyed personal greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing Algeria’s commitment to deepening fraternal bonds and solidifying solidarity and cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
Accelerating the power plant project to meet urgent energy needs
The discussions centered on reviewing the progress of existing cooperation frameworks and evaluating the implementation of key agreements following President Tiani’s official visit to Algeria in February. The leaders also assessed outcomes from the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien Joint High Commission held in Niamey last March.
President Tiani expressed his high regard for President Tebboune, acknowledging Algeria’s pivotal role in expediting the power plant construction—a critical energy project completed ahead of schedule. This achievement underscores the strong bilateral ties and shared determination to build a robust, diversified partnership that aligns with the mutual interests and developmental aspirations of both nations.
A shining example of South-South cooperation
President Tiani commended the rapid progress of joint initiatives, hailing the exceptional dynamism in Algerian-Nigerien relations as a benchmark for South-South cooperation. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment—shared with President Tebboune—to elevate bilateral relations to unprecedented heights.
Prime Minister Ghrieb highlighted the remarkable strides made in cooperation within a short timeframe, marking a new phase of shared political commitment and tangible project execution. He credited this progress to the strategic guidance of both leaders and their rigorous follow-up on the jointly established roadmap.
Regional stability and economic integration take center stage
Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation across priority sectors, including energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, education, digital technology, and transportation. The focus remains on advancing transformative projects that drive economic growth and enhance regional integration.
The talks also addressed trade and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to expedite project timelines to bolster economic development and deepen regional integration. On a broader scale, the leaders discussed pressing regional challenges, emphasizing the importance of sustained bilateral coordination to foster peace, security, and stability across the Sahel.
