During the 27th anniversary celebration of Morocco’s Throne Day in Bamako, high-ranking officials from both nations underscored the deepening economic and diplomatic ties between Mali and the Kingdom of Morocco. The event served as a platform to reflect on the progress achieved through collaborative initiatives that prioritize mutual growth and regional stability.

The Moroccan ambassador to Mali, Driss Isbayène, emphasized the strategic importance of South-South cooperation under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. «The principle is clear: building partnerships rooted in solidarity, mutual respect, and tangible projects that directly benefit our populations,» he stated. His remarks highlighted Morocco’s commitment to fostering long-term development across Africa.
Former Moroccan-trained Malian official Abou Djitteye shared his enthusiasm, expressing pride in the flourishing relationship between the two countries. «It is an honor to witness how strong these ties have become,» he said, extending warm wishes to His Majesty for continued success.
Key milestones and future prospects
The 27th anniversary also marked a significant diplomatic shift. Mali’s decision to withdraw its recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (RASD) last April was hailed as a turning point, paving the way for enhanced cooperation. This historic move was followed by the convening of the Mali-Morocco High Joint Commission, a gathering that further solidified the partnership between the two nations.
Thierno Amadou Omar Hass Diallo, a former minister, reflected on Morocco’s dynamic regional engagement, particularly within the Sahel. «Those observing Morocco’s current trajectory see how its influence extends across Sub-Saharan Africa, including Mali. The recognition of Morocco’s full sovereignty over the Sahara by the Malian government has played a pivotal role in strengthening these bonds,» he noted.
Mali’s commitment to regional stability
Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, seized the occasion to reaffirm his country’s appreciation for Morocco’s unwavering support. «This milestone is an opportunity to reaffirm our deep gratitude for Morocco’s contributions—not only to Mali but also to the member states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Their efforts are vital for fostering peace, security, and sustainable development in our region,» he declared.
Minister Diop also praised the Royal Atlantic Initiative, a visionary project aimed at providing Sahelian nations with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. «This initiative reflects Morocco’s dedication to unlocking new economic opportunities for our landlocked countries,» he added.
