Togo and Egypt deepen strategic ties at Seoul summit
The first ministerial Korea-Africa meeting, held in Seoul on June 1-2, served as a platform for Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Dussey, to engage in pivotal discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
During their meeting, the two diplomats reviewed the existing ties between Lomé and Cairo, highlighting the positive momentum driving their relationship forward. Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with Togo, particularly in key economic sectors.
The agenda explored opportunities for Egyptian businesses to contribute to Togo’s development initiatives, with infrastructure, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and port development emerging as focal points. Enhancing technology transfer and digital capacity-building were also emphasized as critical components to support Africa’s economic transformation and modernize public administrations.
Security and diplomatic matters took center stage as the ministers discussed regional stability in the Great Lakes and the Sahel. Badr Abdelatty praised Togo’s mediation efforts in resolving continental disputes, underscoring Egypt’s support for peace initiatives and dialogue across Africa.
This engagement reflects a shared vision between Togo and Egypt to fortify their strategic partnership and foster stronger South-South cooperation in addressing Africa’s pressing development and security challenges.
