Senegal prime minister condemns western pressure on homosexuality law
The Senegalese Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, has strongly pushed back against mounting criticism of the country’s newly enacted legislation that imposes harsher penalties for same-sex relationships.
During a parliamentary address, Sonko accused Western nations of attempting to force their moral values onto Senegal and other nations, framing the debate as a battle for cultural sovereignty.
He emphasized that the law, which strengthens existing anti-homosexuality provisions, reflects the nation’s deep-rooted religious and societal norms and will be applied without exception.
« We will not bow to external pressures that seek to undermine our traditions, » Sonko declared, underscoring the government’s unwavering stance on the matter.
