ANACIM has forecasted a powerful northwesterly swell that may exceed 2.5 meters along the Grande Côte starting from 12 May at 03:00. The warning extends to the capital, Dakar, where conditions are expected to deteriorate from 13 May at 01:00.

The meteorological agency has highlighted several critical concerns:

  • Extremely challenging sea conditions that could disrupt maritime navigation and fishing activities
  • Dangerous waves threatening coastal regions, particularly vulnerable to high-risk situations
  • Strong northerly winds with gusts up to 40 km/h affecting the Grande Côte from 11 May at 23:00 to 13 May at 07:00

safety measures and precautionary advice

Given the severity of the conditions, ANACIM has strongly advised all seafarers, fishermen, and coastal communities to prioritize safety by strictly following official guidelines. Small boats and vessels are particularly at risk, and operators are encouraged to avoid unnecessary sea travel during this period.

The agency warns that these hazardous conditions will persist until 16 May at 01:00, urging continuous monitoring of weather updates and maritime advisories.
