Rogers joins chelsea on £117m deal, shattering premier league transfer record

Chelsea FC has announced the signing of 23-year-old Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a whopping £117m, making it the most expensive transfer in Premier League history.

The England international, who has been one of the top young talents in the league, will join Chelsea on a contract until 2033 and is expected to work with new coach Xabi Alonso.

Rogers has had an impressive career so far, netting 40 goals in 85 Premier League matches for Aston Villa and helping them finish fourth in the table last season. He also made his debut for England in November 2024 and went on to play in the World Cup final last year.

The transfer fee is a staggering £117m, making it the second most expensive deal in Premier League history after Alexander Isak’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool for £125m last summer.

Arsenal were reportedly the main target for Rogers during the summer transfer window but Chelsea managed to swoop in and snatch him from under their noses.

Chelsea will be hoping that Rogers can bring some of his success with England to the club, which has been struggling for consistency lately. The new addition is sure to excite Blues fans and is a major coup for the club’s recruitment department.
