Nyong and Kelle bridge edges closer to completion as access roads near finalization
Infrastructure developments in Nyong-et-Kellé are reaching a critical milestone as the approaches to the Malombo bridge over the Nyong River enter their final construction phase.
Construction activities for the Malombo bridge approaches in Nyong-et-Kellé are in their final stages, with the contractor CFHEC now focusing on signaling and drainage systems. The dual-carriageway project spans 960 meters across both riverbanks, featuring 3.5-meter lanes with 1.5-meter shoulders on either side.
The road structure comprises a 25cm lateritic foundation layer, a 20cm crushed gravel base, and a 5cm bituminous wearing course. The Nyong River bridge itself is also nearing completion, with all 160-meter spans already installed and awaiting final signage installation.
According to project officials, the infrastructure will be delivered approximately eight months ahead of the original schedule. The dual challenges of Nyong River’s seasonal flooding and local community concerns have been successfully navigated, with the contractor overcoming fuel theft, equipment challenges, and payment delays to maintain the accelerated timeline.
The Ministry of Public Works has praised the contractor’s resilience throughout the project, particularly noting the successful completion of all structural elements despite significant environmental and logistical hurdles. The supervision consortium INTEGC/GENERAL ENGINEERING has been instrumental in maintaining quality standards throughout the construction process.
