Nice handed two empty stadium matches after riot at Allianz Riviera

The disciplinary committee has imposed two matches behind closed doors and a suspended game on the Allianz Riviera after the disturbances during Nice’s final Ligue 1 clash with Metz. OGC Nice, who are appealing the decision, will now face Saint-Étienne in the playoff return on May 29 in an empty stadium.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel’s disciplinary body handed down the punishment to Nice following the final-day fixture against Metz, citing «pyrotechnic devices, pitch invasion and stadium damage at the final whistle». This means the playoff return against Saint-Étienne will take place without supporters, though the club has already lodged an appeal to contest the ruling. At the first leg in Saint-Étienne on May 26, Nice will already be without striker Elye Wahi due to suspension.

Paris Saint-Germain also received a sanction, with the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes to be closed for the first home Ligue 1 match of the 2026-27 season after «pyrotechnic use and visible expressions» were observed.

Additional penalties
A fifth booking or revocation of a suspended ban triggers a one-match ban for: Benjamin André (Lille), Mahdi Camara (Stade Rennais FC), Christian Mawissa (AS Monaco), Elye Wahi (OGC Nice).

Nantes’ case, involving a pitch invasion early in their match against Toulouse, will be reviewed separately at a later date.
