Mali’s mohammed VI vocational center: a pillar for national skill development

Spanning an impressive 5,200 m² of covered space, the Mohammed VI Vocational Training Center stands as a beacon of professional education in Mali. This state-of-the-art facility is meticulously designed to deliver specialized training that directly addresses the evolving demands of the Malian job market. Its establishment signifies a critical investment in the nation’s human capital.

Mamary Diarra, the national director of Tourism, emphasized the profound significance of this initiative. He highlighted the exceptional collaboration between the States of Mali and Morocco, underscoring that the generous donation from His Majesty Mohammed VI serves as clear evidence of the deep understanding and enduring friendship shared by both countries. Diarra further noted that the center will empower young Malians by providing them with high-quality training right here in Bamako. He proudly described the center’s comprehensive amenities, which include modern classrooms, fully equipped model restaurants, and realistic model hotels, affirming its status as a remarkable asset for the Malian government.

Once fully operational, this modern infrastructure is poised to welcome nearly 1,000 trainees each year. It will offer comprehensive programs across 21 distinct training sectors, including 12 specialized fields within the construction and public works (BTP) industry, alongside 9 dedicated to the thriving tourism, hospitality, and catering sectors.

Mamadou Minkoro Traoré, president of the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Crafts of Mali (APCMM), underscored the profound importance of establishing such a robust vocational training center within the country. He highlighted that this facility provides the invaluable opportunity to train young people locally, eliminating the need for trainees to travel to Morocco for specialized education. Beyond delivering high-quality instruction, this institution also offers significant economic advantages by saving students the substantial costs associated with international travel and accommodation.

Mamadou Traoré, the visionary behind Balimaya and a haute couture and fashion design graduate from Morocco, emphasized Mali’s urgent demand for skilled human resources in critical development sectors. He noted that the center’s operationalization has arrived at a crucial juncture, expressing gratitude to the Moroccan authorities for this invaluable gift to Mali. This establishment will enable young Malians to acquire valuable trades, offering a viable alternative to perilous journeys abroad and actively contributing to the fight against youth unemployment.

During the official handover of this vital infrastructure to Malian authorities last July, Oumou Sall Seck, Mali’s Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment and Vocational Training, affirmed that this initiative strategically addresses Mali’s pressing need to cultivate skills and bolster its human capital across sectors vital for the nation’s economic and social progress.
