Gabonese communication authority suspends info 241 news portal

The High Communication Authority (HAC) in Gabon has taken decisive action, suspending the news website Info 241 indefinitely. This move comes in response to an article published by the platform, which has sparked considerable controversy.
The contentious piece, titled « Lanlaire balance sur Oligui: 150 000 € offerts, vidéos compromettantes, bisexualité, 20 milliards dilapidés… », focused on Anges Landry Mbeng, a Gabonese influencer known as Lanlaire, who resides in France.
The HAC asserts that the article on Info 241 contained « injurious, scandalous, and unusually virulent remarks concerning the person of the President of the Republic and his family ». According to the authority, the media outlet failed to adhere to legal provisions, leading to its immediate suspension until further notice.
In response to the suspension, Info 241 issued a statement, accusing the HAC of having erred « without even reading the article that prompted its latest impulsive decision ».
This development has become a major talking point across Gabon. Numerous supporters of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema have publicly called for legal proceedings to be initiated against Lanlaire and those deemed his accomplices in this matter.
