France Confirms End of Gabonese Camp de Gaulle Base
French Ambassador to Gabon Fabrice Mauriès has confirmed that the French military base in Gabon, formerly known as Camp De Gaulle, will be transformed into a new facility.
The announcement was made during a speech at the French National Day celebration in Libreville on July 14th. The diplomat stated that the transformation is part of a process of adaptation and co-construction between France and Gabon, aiming to modernize their defense relations.

The French ambassador emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries in matters of politics, security, and defense, describing it as a cornerstone of their relationship.
He also announced significant changes to France’s military presence in Gabon, including the establishment of a new partnership that will bring greater stability and clarity to their relations.
In addition, Mauriès highlighted the efforts being made to strengthen security cooperation, including the creation of a national financial prosecution unit and the fight against narcotics trafficking, immigration irregularities, border surveillance, and police reform.
These developments come as France and Gabon continue to redefine their military cooperation following a change in government last year. The transformation of Camp De Gaulle marks an important milestone in this process, aiming to preserve a strategic partnership adapted to the new security priorities of the region.
