The C64 coalition in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) views President Félix Tshisekedi’s proposed national dialogue as a mere distraction, failing to address the pressing challenges faced by Congolese citizens. The opposition firmly asserts that the current administration is substituting genuine, inclusive national discussions with ineffective maneuvers.

Following five hours of intensive deliberation, Martin Fayulu publicly announced the coalition’s unified stance. He declared, “The populace is not deceived. These repeated consultations initiated by Félix Tshisekedi neither respond to the urgency of ongoing conflict, nor to pervasive insecurity, the health crisis, or the profound social distress afflicting Congolese people. They are diverting the nation from its true priorities.”

Opposition leaders contend that President Tshisekedi is “cynically preoccupied” with extending his tenure beyond his second mandate, which is set to conclude in 2028. They allege, “The government is laying the groundwork for prolonging its power by exploiting the conflict and suffering in the eastern part of the country as a political commodity. The C64 stands firmly against Félix Tshisekedi’s ambitions, as he appears willing to consolidate the balkanization of the country, even beyond the expiration of his mandate, now just 754 days away.”

In response to what it labels as a dangerous deviation from democratic principles, the C64 coalition plans to mobilize the populace. The group is reaffirming its call for a significant national march on September 15th, aiming to counter the ruling party’s perceived maneuvers.
