Cameroun gears up for francophonie parliamentary assembly 2026
Cameroon intensifies preparations for the 51st Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly
The Central African nation is readying itself to host the 51st Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly in July 2026, with active diplomatic and logistical arrangements underway.
With major international events behind it, Cameroon is now focusing on hosting a landmark gathering.
Following the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference and the visit of Pope Leo XIV, Cameroon is set to welcome its third major international event this year: the 51st General Assembly of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly (APF), scheduled to take place in Yaoundé from July 7 to 12, 2026.
In preparation for this high-profile event, Cameroon’s ambassador to France, André-Magnus Ekoumou, met with the President of the National Assembly, Théodore Datouo. The discussions centered on the country’s readiness to host the assembly, aligning with the strategic vision of President Paul Biya.
The Cameroonian embassy in France has implemented streamlined visa processes to ensure swift issuance of courtesy visas for all incoming delegations.
During the meeting, the President of the National Assembly highlighted the importance of strengthening parliamentary democracy and commended the ambassador’s efforts in supporting Cameroonians in France, particularly in facilitating their participation in Promote 2026, a major business event held at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé.
The discussions also explored plans for establishing a parliamentary museum at the National Assembly. The Speaker emphasized the need for French expertise in this project, including best practices and digital innovation, to create a modern and interactive space.
A key highlight of the assembly will be the election of the next Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda emerging as Africa’s leading candidates.
