Cameroon activists demand justice for alleged torture of Jacques Bertrand Mang

Cameroon’s Democratic Union Condemns Alleged Torture of Activist Jacques Bertrand Mang

The Union démocratique du Cameroun (UDC), led by its president Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, has strongly denounced the alleged torture and inhumane treatment of political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang. The party declares these actions a blatant violation of Cameroon’s constitutional principles, stating that ‘if confirmed, such acts would represent a grave breach of fundamental rights and the rule of law.’

Unacceptable Violence Against Citizens

The UDC emphasizes that no form of civic engagement or disagreement can justify torture, violence, or cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment. Through an official statement, the party urges authorities to fully investigate the allegations to ensure Jacques Bertrand Mang’s physical and moral integrity is preserved and his rights are fully protected.

Activist’s Public Appeal Highlights Police Misconduct

Jacques Bertrand Mang, known for his vocal stance on social injustices, governance issues, and daily struggles faced by Cameroonians, found himself at the center of a disturbing incident on June 30, 2026. While live-streaming on Facebook, he pleaded with police officers to release him, only to be told that he could not leave while angry. Despite his repeated attempts, he was prevented from exiting the police station, with officers insisting he wait for a superior’s arrival.

This is not the first time Mang has faced legal and institutional repercussions. Previously, he was forcibly detained in a medical facility for involuntary psychiatric evaluation due to his public statements. Legal complaints have been filed against him by authorities, and his social media content frequently targets police, gendarmerie, customs, municipal authorities, politicians, and even celebrities. Reports indicate that he has been held in police custody.
