Why Cameroon’s fight for stability is a global security warning
The communication director at the ministry of defence issues a stirring call for vigilance

Drawing on the concept of global peace and security, he urged all citizens to remain vigilant. His message, though brief, carries significant weight in a world where threats are increasingly complex and interconnected.

Frozen conflicts are thawing into new wars
Frozen conflicts are showing signs of resurgence, ongoing wars continue to drag on, and security crises seem endless. On nearly every continent, the sound of weapons grows louder and more frequent. Sometimes it’s regular armies clashing, other times it’s so-called asymmetric operations, or even firearm homicides—those low-intensity but highly lethal conflicts. Just to focus on the latter, shootings claim more than 200,000 lives each year across the globe.
This globalization of armed violence breeds a palpable sense of permanent insecurity. That feeling can quickly spiral into psychosis, especially in our countries that are prey to the misdeeds of an international terrorist network whose capacity for harm keeps growing, despite unanimous condemnations and sanctions.
Meanwhile, bombings, attacks, attempted blockades, and hostage-takings are multiplying. All this is only possible because terrorists can acquire means of action on land, in the air, at sea, and in cyberspace. There’s no need to ask who enables them or why. Our enemies are sustained by our friends, for our own good—or so it seems.
At the same time, we’re witnessing the globalization of other forms of insecurity that extend into various areas of human activity. Industrial espionage targets businesses; wildlife, plant, and mineral resources are looted; communication routes are sabotaged, destroyed, or diverted. Not to mention politics, education, and centuries-old cultural norms that are being distorted in every way. These are all attacks—violence against people, institutions, and the environment. And at the rate things are going, no country seems powerful enough to avoid being a target.
We, the citizens of Cameroon, are in a prime position to understand what’s at stake. We who, against our will, must fight hard to survive the multiple aggressions that have made our country a convergence point.
Cameroon’s strategic sacrifices in a dangerous neighborhood
Our country devotes enormous portions of its economic, material, and human potential to simultaneously blocking the fallout from instability on its eastern borders and stifling transnational projects of obscurantist extremism in its northern region. And as if that weren’t enough, Cameroon is also working to drain another abscess: the seditious ambitions in its western regions.
In this increasingly dangerous global environment, Cameroon is doing its best to prevent, contain, and when necessary, reduce the occurrence and severity of attacks targeting it. To date, the results of our efforts have been rather satisfactory, although outbreaks of violence still occur in some parts of the national territory. In this noble struggle, the support of our compatriots for the professional workers of national defence is invaluable.
However, we must continue to exercise constant vigilance, at every point of the national territory and in all domains, to thwart the maneuvers of an adversary from whom we can expect neither respite nor mercy.
Let us remain patriots, let us stay vigilant, let us definitively love Cameroon.
