Kinshasa witnessed a significant event on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, as the Ministry of Mines hosted the official award ceremony for the « BUANYA » excellence competition at the prestigious Pullman Grand Hôtel. This initiative, spearheaded by Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba, was designed to engage graduates from the National School of Administration (ENA) in developing strategic solutions for the Democratic Republic of Congo’s vital mining sector.
The gathering brought together key figures, including the Secretary General of Mines, leaders from various oversight bodies, esteemed jury members, the participating ENA graduates, and numerous distinguished guests. A highlight of the event was the announcement of the competition results and the subsequent presentation of awards to the winning teams.
Over several weeks, forty-eight ENA graduates, organized into six distinct teams, undertook extensive research and in-depth analysis. Their focus spanned critical themes within the Congolese mining industry, encompassing robust mining governance, enhancing resource transparency and traceability, combating illicit activities and fraud, effective supervision of artisanal mining, geological exploration strategies, ensuring an equitable distribution of sector benefits, and fostering the initiation of new mining ventures.
Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba emphasized the Democratic Republic of Congo’s pivotal role in the global energy transition. He underscored that this strategic standing carries a profound responsibility: to transform the nation’s rich mineral endowment into tangible drivers of national development, fostering job creation, modern infrastructure, and high-quality social services for all citizens.
Furthermore, Minister Watum urged the award recipients to continue embodying excellence, integrity, and a commitment to change. He reiterated that the future of mining governance in the DRC must be built upon the pillars of meritocracy, innovation, transparency, and a steadfast focus on achieving measurable results.
This forward-thinking initiative aligns directly with the vision of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, a vision diligently advanced under the coordination of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka. Their collective leadership prioritizes human capital development and robust good governance as central tenets of public action.
The ceremony concluded on a warm and celebratory note with a group photo, symbolizing the culmination of what was widely regarded as an enriching experience. This event is expected to pave the way for increased involvement of the nation’s administrative youth in shaping and transforming the Congolese mining sector.
