Côte d’Ivoire reaffirms unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

Diplomatic breakthrough during Rabat visit

Côte d’Ivoire has once again expressed its firm backing for Morocco’s territorial sovereignty and the integrity of its borders, including the Sahara region. The commitment was made public following high-level talks between Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nialé Kaba, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, during an official visit to Rabat.

During the meeting, Nialé Kaba emphasized that Côte d’Ivoire’s support for Morocco’s position has remained consistent and unwavering. This diplomatic alignment underscores the deepening ties between Rabat and Abidjan, built on mutual trust and strengthened South-South cooperation.

United Nations recognition strengthens Morocco’s autonomy plan

In a significant diplomatic milestone, Côte d’Ivoire welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797. The resolution acknowledges Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the most credible and serious foundation for a lasting resolution to the regional dispute. This endorsement further solidifies the international legitimacy of Morocco’s position.

The Ivorian delegation also highlighted the strategic move of opening a consulate general in Laâyoune in 2020, which has since become a symbol of the robust bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Morocco expresses deep appreciation for Côte d’Ivoire’s stance

In response, Nasser Bourita conveyed Morocco’s profound gratitude for Côte d’Ivoire’s steadfast support. He described the partnership between the two countries as a cornerstone of regional stability and a model for enhanced South-South collaboration. The mutual recognition of shared interests has paved the way for deeper economic, political, and security cooperation.

The diplomatic exchange in Rabat serves as another testament to the growing consensus among African nations in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and its autonomy proposal as the most viable path forward.
