Chad’s vice-premier minister assesses local governance in Moundou
Chad’s Vice-Premier Minister responsible for Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, on an official mission to monitor and evaluate territorial governance.
Key discussions held in Logone Occidental
The two-day engagement, running from May 20 to 21, unfolds at the Logone Occidental provincial council headquarters. Participants include general delegates from southern provinces, prefects, municipal mayors, provincial council presidents, as well as national deputies and senators.
Local leaders emphasize grassroots realities
At the opening session, Dago Yacoub, the general delegate for Logone Occidental, welcomed the N’Djamena-based delegation. He stressed that this gathering would provide authorities with deeper insights into local conditions and pressing community needs. The visit, he noted, allows the vice-premier minister to “experience firsthand the ground realities” and craft targeted solutions to address citizens’ concerns.
Vice-premier minister highlights southern Chad’s vital role
Vice-Premier Minister Limane Mahamat underscored the southern region’s pivotal role in Chad’s economy, describing it as the nation’s “agricultural breadbasket” due to its critical contribution to food security. He also flagged pressing security challenges plaguing southern provinces, including farmer-herder conflicts, intercommunal tensions, and the illicit arms trade. These issues, he warned, undermine social cohesion and deepen community divisions.
Mission aims to bolster local governance
Through this initiative, Chad’s government seeks to strengthen local governance and enhance coordination between central authorities and regional administrations.
