A man who arrived at Cameroon’s national radio headquarters last month with what appeared to be official presidential decrees has been jailed in Yaoundé. The documents, presented on June 12, included a decree appointing a vice president—a position that has not existed in the country for decades.

Staff at the CRTV offices in Yaoundé’s Nlongkak district, where the man introduced himself as Johann Adriel Sitchom Kuate, found the papers suspicious. Some bore the president’s signature, but officials later confirmed they were forged. The investigation revealed that the name listed as vice president in the decree was none other than his own, raising serious questions about his motives.

Authorities now accuse him of attempting to undermine state security, a charge that could lead to severe penalties if proven. The case has prompted authorities to review security protocols at public media outlets to prevent similar incidents in the future.
